Cassia angustifolia, known as senna, is one of the plants traditionally used to promote bowel movements. When taken as a herbal tea, its action is complemented by the intake of hot liquid, which helps to stimulate the bowel reflex naturally. It is recommended for occasional constipation, during specific episodes of sluggish bowel movements associated with travel, changes in diet or disruptions to daily routine.
Pour the contents of one tea bag into a cup of very hot water, leave to steep for 5 to 10 minutes, remove the tea bag and drink, preferably in the evening. Use the minimum dose sufficient to promote bowel movement without causing discomfort.

To promote bowel movement, it is advisable to drink fluids throughout the day, consume an adequate amount of fibre and take regular exercise.
