Theblack Surgicalmed FFP2-NR face mask is a self-filtering mask designed to reduce exposure to airborne particles. Its FFP2 rating corresponds to a minimum filtration efficiency of 94 per cent.

It has five layers, does not feature an exhalation valve and is not washable. The box contains 20 black masks, each individually bagged.

This mask filters particles, droplets and aerosols whilst you breathe. It must completely cover your nose, mouth and chin. A proper fit is essential to ensure that air passes through the filter material.

The ‘NR’ marking indicates that it must not be used for more than one work shift. Nor should it be washed or kept for later use.

Layers 1, 3 and 5 are made from non-woven fabric and account for 66.7 per cent of the material. Layers 2 and 4 are made from blow-moulded fabric and account for 33.3 per cent.

1. Wash your hands before touching the mask.

1. Hold it by the elastic straps and position the nose clip facing upwards.

1. Cover your nose, mouth and chin. Adjust the elastic straps over your ears.

1. Mould the clip to the bridge of your nose to improve the seal.

1. Check the fit before entering the exposure area.

1. If you notice any leaks, readjust the clip and the elastic bands.

In the workplace, the relevant preventive measures and respiratory protection protocol must be followed.

• Do not use the mask if it is damaged, damp or does not fit securely.

• A beard or facial hair in the sealing area may reduce the seal.

• Do not wash or reuse a respirator marked ‘NR’.

• Remove it by holding the elastic straps and avoid touching the outside.

• Dispose of the mask after use in accordance with the applicable protocol.

• A face mask reduces exposure, but does not, on its own, eliminate all risks.
